Best running shoes under ₹10,000

An honest guide to running shoes under ₹10,000 in India. Neutral vs stability, what the price actually buys, and the five ASICS models worth considering — with live prices and stock.

ASICS GEL-EXCITE 11
GEL-EXCITE 11 — the all-rounder in this price bracket.
The short answer

Under ₹10,000 you are choosing between cushioning and support, not chasing speed. If your ankles roll inward when you run, buy the GT-1000 14 and stop reading. If they do not, the GEL-EXCITE 11 is the sensible default. Everything else here is a variation on those two.

What ₹10,000 actually buys in India

Carbon plates, nitrogen-infused foams and 39mm stacks live above ₹14,000. Below ₹10,000 you get EVA or AMPLIFOAM midsoles, sometimes a GEL insert at the heel, and honest rubber outsoles. That is not a criticism — for someone running 15–30km a week, a well-fitted ₹7,000 shoe is a better purchase than a poorly-fitted ₹17,000 one.

The two things worth paying for at this level are a midsole that has not gone flat and the right support type for your gait. Everything else is marketing.

Neutral or stability — decide this first

Stand barefoot and look at your ankles in a mirror. If they angle inward and your arch flattens, you overpronate, and a neutral shoe will let that continue for every one of the roughly 900 strides per kilometre you run. A stability shoe adds a firmer section on the inner side to resist it.

Most people do not overpronate and do not need it. If you are unsure, a neutral shoe is the safer default — over-correcting a normal gait causes its own problems.

The picks

ASICS PATRIOT 14 Black/Vital Green

Best under ₹6,000

PATRIOT 14

A straightforward EVA-cushioned trainer. No GEL, no frills — but at this price it is the honest choice for someone starting to run three times a week rather than training for a race.

ASICS GEL-CONTEND 9 Twilight Blue/Illuminate Green

Best first running shoe

GEL-CONTEND 9

Rearfoot GEL and an AMPLIFOAM midsole at entry-level money. The cushioning you actually notice on road is here; the weight savings are not.

₹5,999  ·  UK 11–11  ·  2 in stock  ·  Twilight Blue/Illuminate Green

ASICS GEL-EXCITE 11 Twilight Blue/Light Dust

Best all-rounder under ₹8,000

GEL-EXCITE 11

AMPLIFOAM+ with rearfoot GEL. Comfortable enough for daily miles and light enough not to feel like a brick. The one most people should buy in this bracket.

₹7,999  ·  UK 6–11  ·  129 in stock  ·  Twilight Blue/Light Dust

ASICS GEL-PULSE 17 Black/Cobalt Burst

Best cushioned ride

GEL-PULSE 17

GEL at both heel and forefoot, so it stays comfortable when your form falls apart late in a run. Heavier at 275g, which you feel above 8km.

₹8,999  ·  UK 8–10  ·  45 in stock  ·  Black/Cobalt Burst

ASICS GT-1000 14 Black/Yamabuki

Best for overpronation

GT-1000 14

The only stability shoe under ₹10,000 here. LITETRUSS controls inward roll — if your ankles collapse, this matters far more than weight or foam.

₹9,999  ·  UK 7–11  ·  42 in stock  ·  Black/Yamabuki

What we would not buy at this price

Anything sold as a "running shoe" without a named midsole foam. If a listing cannot tell you what is under your foot, it is usually a lifestyle shoe with a sporty upper — fine for walking, wrong for repeated impact.

Also worth avoiding: buying a size up "for comfort". A loose running shoe lets your foot slide forward on every stride, which is how people lose toenails. It should be snug through the midfoot with about a thumb's width at the front.

Common questions

What is the best ASICS running shoe under ₹10,000?

For most runners the GEL-EXCITE 11 at ₹7,999 — AMPLIFOAM+ cushioning with rearfoot GEL, and light enough for daily training. If you overpronate, the GT-1000 14 at ₹9,999 is the better choice because it is the only stability shoe in this bracket.

How do I know if I need a stability running shoe?

Look at your ankles from behind while standing. If they angle inward and your arch flattens under load, you overpronate and a stability shoe like the GT-1000 14 will help. If they stay upright, choose a neutral shoe — adding support you do not need can create problems of its own.

How many kilometres should a running shoe last?

Roughly 500–800km depending on your weight, surface and gait. Replace them when the midsole stops springing back or the outsole tread has worn smooth in your landing zone — not when the upper looks scruffy. Worn midsoles are a common cause of shin and knee pain.

Are cheaper running shoes bad for your knees?

Not inherently. Fit and support type matter far more than price. A ₹5,499 PATRIOT 14 in the right size, replaced on schedule, is better for you than an expensive shoe that fits poorly or has done 1,000km.

What size should I order?

We list UK sizes, the same as Amazon India. ASICS men's shoes run true to size: UK 9 equals US 10. Because we do not accept returns for sizing, check the size guide first or message us and we will confirm the specific model.
